"He thanked Hungary for its support, (...) for example in the case of Guantanamo," Bajnai said. He met President Obama on the sideline of the UN General Assembly session and at a dinner on the session's eve.

"(Obama) said what was happening in Hungary was very impressive."

Bajnai said he had told Obama that his government aims at making "Hungary not part of the problem but the solution in important global affairs".

Bajnai said his visit to New York so far had been successful.

"I came here to talk about the positive turn that had taken place in Hungary," Bajnai said, adding that he had received positive views of Hungary, which is again being seen as up-and-coming, its economy as being on the right track.

Hungary is also acknowledged as a "reliable ally in today's complicated global-political conditions," he said.
