Roma slayings - DNA tests confirm suspicion

Budapest - The DNA of two suspected perpetrators of anti-Roma attacks has proved to be identical with samples found at the crime sites, senior officials of the national police force announced at a press conference on Tuesday.

The investigation has also proved that the guns used in the killings are identical to those seized in connection with the suspects, criminal director Istvan Hazi said.

Contrary to press reports released earlier on Tuesday, the police are not looking for further suspects, head of the National Bureau of Investigations (NNI) Attila Petofi said in response to a question by MTI.

Three other men, who were detained following a Molotov-cocktail attack in Tarnabod (N) last summer, have now been released, Petofi said.

The suspected perpetrators were arrested in Debrecen (E) early last Friday.

An NNI team of 120 detectives is investigating nine attacks on Roma families living on the outskirts of small, rural villages. In the attacks, committed between July last year and August 3, 2009 in central and eastern Hungary, six Roma were killed, including a five-year-old boy.
