Bajnai said that the most important organisations as far as Hungary is concerned, NATO and the EU, determined the country's foreign-policy latitude.

In spite of the difficulties of the economic crisis, Hungary wishes to continue to be a predictable and trustworthy partner, Bajnai said.

The two officials were in agreement on their common priorities, namely the Western Balkans and the stabilisation of Kosovo as well as prospects for NATO membership of Macedonia and Montenegro.

The NATO chief conveyed his appreciation for Hungary's role in NATO's Afghanistan mission.

Bajnai extended an invitation to Rasmussen to pay a visit to Hungary before the end of the year.
